Thanks to everyone that showed up yesterday, and a special thanks to The Dead Poet for the giveaways! (And congratulations to the winners: @astraiton and @terry_lane!) We had another terrific turnout - Over a dozen people showed up to chat about their experiences of working from home and to continue building a fun and enriching group.
I could go on and on about how great it is to meet folks in our neighborhood who share a common theme. Instead, I'll let a few of the members say it themselves:
When I first heard about the "Work from Home Meetings" I thought it was a good idea. Now that I've been to one I am certain it's a great idea! - Dennis T.
I'm so glad to have a chance to meet new people and get out there! - Maria D.
I just stumbled upon a mention of this meetup and I love the idea! - Alejandra R.
MARCH MEETING Holy moly, can you believe this will be the sixth meeting? Let's shoot for Wednesday, March 21 for the next meeting (more details here).
- We started a new series called Upper West Side: Meet Your Neighbor. If there's anyone you'd like me to reach out to (including you!), do let me know.
- Guest Speaker: I'm going to see if I can get someone to swing by and say a few words (maybe 15 minutes worth) about working from home. In the previous poll, some folks liked this idea and some didn't. Maybe we can give it a try and see how it works.
- More members? We had a nice chat after-hours (ie, 4:30PM) about promoting the meeting. One of the ideas was to create a hashtag for those folks using Twitter (GREAT idea Adrian!). Since typing on small devices can be a pain, maybe something like: #UWSWFH? I'll buy a round if it trends.
- Member Directory: What are your thoughts on creating a simple member directory? If you met someone at the meeting but didn't have a chance to grab their contact details, it would be listed in the directory. (I emphasize 'simple', as in: William Anderson: Website)
A huge thanks goes to The Dead Poet Bar. The team has been very helpful and generous with their time and support (and giveaways!). Even if you're not attending one of these meetups, stop for a drink and a neighborhood chat.
Special thanks to @MyUpperWest and @WestSideRag for helping to get the word out. While not everyone was able to make yesterday's meetup, the amount of interest is really strong (and that interest comes directly from them!).
A second special thanks goes out to the Beastie Boys - Thanks for attending yesterday and helping to get everyone together.
